Research in the Ferguson group focuses on the surface and nanomaterials chemistry of metals, semiconductors and organic polymers, and spans several of the sub-disciplines of the field.  Professor Ferguson's philosophy in guiding undergraduate and graduate students is that although teaching can accomplish concrete goals --measurable with test scores and course evaluations-- there are also values of another sort, less quantifiable but no less important, such as the importance to science of its students retaining and nurturing their natural curiosity.
